We are also keen to advance the Green Growth and Quality dimension with ICTP linking with our own sustainability ethos.”

Professor Geoffrey Lipman, President of ICTP, who will chair a special Think Tank of industry leaders during the Forum added “The great value of WTFL is its proven capacity to seamlessly mix top government and industry executives with academia and young talent in a relaxed, entertaining, yet productive way. We look forward to helping to extend its outreach with destinations and their stakeholders around the world.”

The third World Tourism Forum Lucerne will take place from April 17th to 19th with strategic focus on Global Shift, Green Growth, Talents and New Marketing. Hawaii, Brussels, Seychelles, Bali 1st February 2013: A ddressing the China Tourism Forum during FITUR Travel Fair, ICTP President Professor Geoffrey Lipman said that “China’s commitment to make tourism a consumption lead industry and a pillar of the economy was incredibly significant.

He added that Africa will be one of the great beneficiaries as win - win trade deals for resources intensify in the next decade and Chinese outbound travellers – business and leisure discover the beauties of Africa” . He added that “the great hubs being built in the Gulf, with world leading airlines, mega airports and modern transit centres will become the new connectivity centres of the BRICS driven trade flows”

Lipman predicted that in the second half of the current decade China will have become the largest inbound, outbound and domestic market. Already travel and tourism within China is more than double global international arrivals. And this internal market with more than 5000 years of civilization, history and heritage is an incubator for a next generation of internet savvy, smart, well - educated Chinese travellers, with tourism as a primary discretionary spending focus.

He also noted that despite its late start China was serious about its Green Growth Transformation and he underscored the fact that Travel and Tourism must now step up to the plate and become a lead sector in this evolution as well.

In a subsequent intervention at Investour - attended by several African Ministers of Tourism - Professor Lipman suggested that the next phase of African development will see far greater investment from non - traditional sources, given the anticipated global austerity regimes in place for the foreseeable future. He noted that Chinese companies were very active in port and stadia construction and anticipated more investment from this source in superhighways, fast trains, modern airports, national parks and cruise docks, over the next decade.

Chinese travellers will be an integral part of the trade flows, providing a serious boost to exports and jobs across the continent.

He said that African countries should commit firmly to Green Growth and ensure that their travelism resources – across the supply and demand networks – were able to get preferential access to the massive climate adaptation funds that would come into play.

Last but not least he talked about the new developments in internet based impact funding, committing that ICTP would work closely with GateTrip (www.gatetrip.com) to make this rapidly evolving phenomenon of “crowdfunding” available to tourism destinations – with Africa as a primary point of focus.

During the Fair, ICTP and the China Business Network (CBN) reached an agreement to extend collaboration to provide support, advice and seminars to Destination Council Members of ICTP on winning and satisfying Chinese Travellers., as well as to develop a similar program for tourism communities in China receiving foreign visitors.

Adam Wu Chief Operating Officer of CBN said “We are very excited to partner with ICTP to strengthen our mission Bring the World to China and Take Chinese to the World. While we are already building a solid partnership for promotion of this two way trade and social giant we are particularly happy to extend this cooperation to China’s outwards investment which is one of the bipolar focuses of CBN. And we share ICTP’s vision of the deepening of the China / Africa links where we are already helping many African Investment Promotion Agencies in showcasing their destinations in China“

Lipman added “ICTP shares fully CBN’s global vision of the positive force of China Tourism and Travel as a socio-economic driver - particularly for powering investment in the sector, its supply chain and its infrastructure”

HAWAII, USA; BRUSSELS, Belgium; VICTORIA, Seychelles; BALI, Indonesia –- The International Coalition of Tourism Partners (ICTP) has sent a congratulatory message to their member destination Nigeria for introducing tourist visa card to ease the burden of tourists carrying cash while in Nigeria and a biometric registration system for the tourism industry workers

This follows a meeting at FITUR between Mr Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, ther Director General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation and Minister Alain St.Ange of the Seychelles.

In a press statement released in Madrid, Spain, a co-founder of the internationally acclaimed body Mr. Alain St.Ange, also commended Nigeria for its efforts at curbing fraudulent tendencies in the industry.

Mr. Alain St.Ange, who is also a member of the ICTP executive board lauded these efforts at repositioning the tourism industry in Nigeria with international standards and best practices.

“We in ICTP are very pleased with these development and innovations in Nigeria. We believe these new products are good for tourism growth in the continent.”

Accordingly, the ICTP is encouraging other countries in Africa to do what Nigeria has done for the growth of tourism in their countries.
“We encourage other countries in Africa to introduce these products to ease the movements of tourists who would not carry cash because people don't carry cash across borders any longer”

On the introduction of biometric registration, the ICTP said it viewed the development as a right step forward at instilling confidence in tourists in line with global standard and best practices. The biometric registration will ensure that the CV of hotel staff are always available to all tourism establishments prior to recruitment of new applicants.
This will remain an internal confidential data base for the tourism industry. It is an innovative system and Africa will be watching how it develops as it will ensure hotels have the latest information on the tourism workforce.

“We are pleased Nigeria has taken this step, we hope other countries would do same.

Mr Otunba Olusegun Runsewe said:" I like to thank the industry players for appreciating our modest contribution with regards to development in the industry. I am also very happy with ICTP's words of encouragement."

Mr. Otunba Olusegun Runsewe is a Council member of the International Coalition of Tourism Partners.

HALEIWA, Hawaii, USA; BRUSSELS, Belgium; VICTORIA, Seychelles; BALI, Indonesia:: In our second letters from Leaders  from the book Green Growth and Travelism, Sir Richard Branson sets out the reasons why the aviation industry can deal with its carbon emission challenges and the actions that his airlines are taking to do just this.

Sir Richard says in summary. As the founder of a number of airlines I am determined that we grow responsibly, and keep working hard to find new solutions that will make low carbon aviation possible in the foreseeable future. Today, we are very focused on fuel efficiency; reducing both the demand for fuel and carbon emissions….investing in new efficient aircraft, as well as making changes to operational and maintenance procedures……..We are also looking at alternative fuels that have a lower carbon footprint.  …….  Personally, I believe the airline industry can go from being a polluting industry to one of the cleanest industries in the world within 10 years. Unlike other industries it only has 1,800 fuel pumps to fuel the world's aircraft and therefore once clean fuels are ready for delivery, it is easy to transform the whole industry….. With a highly regulated industry like aviation, policy has a large impact on how efficiently businesses operate, and whether innovation is promoted or penalised. Cap and trade is much more environmentally effective and cost efficient than taxation for reducing carbon emissions. It incentivises fuel efficiencies and the funds can be used for both climate change mitigation and adaptation schemes.  The airlines also have large social impacts - I believe that locals should benefit as much as visitors from tourism and we should ensure that the resorts we enjoy today are preserved for others to enjoy in the future…..It’s important for us to stay positive in the fight against carbon and in attempting to overcome all problems. As I’ve said before – Martin Luther King did not get his message across by saying “I have a nightmare”!

Professor Geoffrey Lipman ICTP President said “We strongly support this view of the future. It is why in 2013 we will be focusing our work on climate change within our overall green growth mission on highlighting positive action our Members are taking to respond positively to the challenges. Our Carnival and Sports focussed initiatives, led by Alston Koch with his song “We can beat this Climate Change” will be at the heart of our campaign.”
